China increasingly interested in big data

China generates an incredible amount of data with its population of 1.3 billion, its expanding economy, and rising usage of internet, making big data analytics extremely attractive to those seeking to understand China’s consumers, Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

The Chinese government has taken interest in big data, coming out with a five year plan that indicates next-generation information technology as one the emerging industries that it would like to expand into.

For this reason, leading Chinese firms have begun to incorporate big data into their strategies, but they should be careful of too much hype too soon, since that can create a bubble of expectation that might not be able to be met just yet, Bloomberg Businessweek reported.
