Who are the biggest contractors at DHS?

The top 20 contractors at the Homeland Security Department represent more than a third of all business done by contract at the department during fiscal 2011, according an analysis by the Center of Strategic and International Studies.

DHS spent $5.1 billion with the top 20 companies, and $14.2 billion on all contractors. IT and systems integration firms dominate the list, but the two of the top 20, including No. 1, go to shipbuilding companies.

According to the analysis by CSIS, the top 20 are:

• Huntington Ingalls Industries – over $1 billion
• Computer Sciences Corp. – $473 million
• IBM – $470 million
• Lockheed Martin – $446 million
• Science Applications International Corp. – $249 million
• Hewlett-Packard Co. – $236 million
• EADS – $203 million
• General Dynamics - 201 million
• Booz Allen Hamilton – $198 million
• Bollinger Shipyards – $187 million
• L3 Communications – $181 million
• Safran SA – $180 million
• Accenture – $156 million
• Dell – $156 million
• Defense Support Services – $139 million
• Unisys – $138 million
• GEO Group – $127 million
• Northrop Grumman – $120 million
• Security Consultants Group – $110 million
• Securitas AB – $108 million

Huntington Ingalls Industries is the “ship-building arm of Northrop Grumman that spun off last year,” said Guy Ben-Ari, deputy director and senior fellow of the Defense-Industrial Initiatives Group at CSIS. It is also the prime contractor for the U.S. Coast Guard’s next generation cutters.
