Honeywell wins $181M logistics contract for F-18 fighters

Honeywell has won a $181 million follow-on contract to provide logistics support for auxiliary power units belonging to the NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support.

Under the five-year contract, the company will provide auxiliary power units in support of the F/A-18-A-G (including F/A-18 Australian F/G models), P-3 and C-2 models, the F/A-18 main fuel controls and the p-3 engine-driven compressor.

Via a performance-based logistics program beginning in 2000, the company has already supported a number of products by providing auxiliary power units, under its public-private partnership with the depot workforce at two of Navy’s Fleet Readiness Centers.

The company said that its program has been successful in its goal to improve the military’s logistics support.

“Honeywell has a long-standing history of logistics support with NAVSUP, and we’ve shown that our initiatives have improved reliability and availability of aircraft for the Navy, while lowering maintenance costs by over $50 million,” said Brian Sill, vice president of Defense Americas Aftermarket, Defense & Space, Honeywell Aerospace.

The company reaped the cost savings through on-time delivery of products to the field; increasing time on wing for all products; improving overall platform availability; eliminating certain aircraft maintenance tasks because of improved service implementation and reliability; and through other improvements, it said.

This follow-on contract will enable the continuance of cost-savings at the Defense Department, Honeywell said.
