Three Top 100 companies win $35M contracts to develop radar systems

Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Co. have each won contracts from the U.S. Air Force, valued at $35 million to develop a new radar system, the Defense Department announced.

Specifically, Lockheed’s contract is valued at $35.9 million; Northrop’s contract at $34.7 million; and Raytheon’s at $35.2 million.

Under each firm-fixed-price contract, the companies will continue to develop the technology of the Three-Dimensional Expeditionary Long-Range Radar system. The three companies will additionally develop the preliminary design review and capability demonstration of the radar prototype.

While all work is expected to be completed by Nov. 20, 2013, the awards differ in the locations where work will be performed: Lockheed will perform work in Liverpool, N.Y.; Northrop Grumman in Linthicum Heights, Md.; and Raytheon in Sudbury, Mass.

The contracting activity on each contract is Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.

Eventually, a $443 million contract for initial production of a three-dimensional radar system will be awarded, according to the market research firm Deltek

Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon placed Nos. 1, 2 and 5 in Washington Technology’s 2012 Top 100 Federal Prime Contractors list, respectively.
