General Dynamics’ buy expands public safety, military wireless offerings

General Dynamics Corp. wrapped up its previously announced purchase of IPW Holdings Inc., the parent company of IPWireless Inc., on Friday, June 8, the company announced today.

The value of the cash transaction has not been disclosed, the June 11 announcement said.

IPWireless, a San Francisco-based provider of 3G and 4G LTE wireless broadband network equipment and solutions for public safety and military customers, has been renamed General Dynamics Broadband and will operate as a subsidiary of General Dynamics C4 Systems.

General Dynamics Broadband produces 3G and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless broadband network components and user devices for end-to-end systems that enable first responders and other mobile users to access lifesaving data and applications at very high speeds, the announcement explained.

Built on commercial networking standards, the company's products improve first responders' effectiveness and safety by providing them with greater access to information.

General Dynamics Broadband will continue working with its existing industry partners and customers in meeting the communication systems needs of public safety users nationwide.

"General Dynamics Broadband is now positioned to bring more innovation to the most advanced mobile broadband deployments in the government sector today," said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems, in the statement.

General Dynamics Corp., of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology’s 2012 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
