Tech companies to offer jobs, training to unemployed vets
IT companies pledge to answer the president's challenge to help 100,000 vets.
Several technology companies will provide jobs and IT training to out-of-work veterans, answering the president’s call for the private sector to help the unemployed, reports Information Week.
President Barack Obama spoke Aug. 5 at the Navy Yard in Washington and asked businesses to step up and help out 100,000 post-9/11 unemployed veterans and their spouses by the end of 2013, the article said.
According to Federal Computer Week, tech vendors responding to the call include Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, AT&T, Siemens Corp. and Accenture and defense contractors Lockheed Martin and Honeywell.
HP is joining the Veterans Fast Launch program aimed at assisting vets build careers when their military service is complete and is also partnering with an organization that provides small-business advice for military entrepreneurs.
