Raytheon assesses, repairs Navy jam-proof communications system

Raytheon Co. will provide communications logistics to the Navy under a $51.6 million contract.

Specifically, the contractor will work with the Navy’s communications terminals of its Extremely High Frequency Satellite Program, according to a June 16 Raytheon announcement.

The performance-based logistics contract calls for Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC (RTSC) to fulfill all requisitions; warehouse and track government-furnished material; resolve supply-obsolescence or source problems; and evaluate, test, repair and/or modify the communications equipment as needed.

The primary work will be performed at the RTSC sites in Norfolk, Va., and Chula Vista, Calif., with additional engineering support performed at Raytheon sites in Marlborough, Mass., and Largo, Fla.

The satellite program provides jam-proof communications for submarines, major surface ships and sites onshore, as well as connectivity with U.S. Army and Air Force communication systems. "As such, it is extremely important that the communication terminals remain functional and up to date,” Wayne Iurillo, vice president of RTSC’s Customized Engineering and Depot Support unit, said in the announcement.
