What if they gave a hearing and nobody came?
Not everyone can stay awake through a dry hearing about contract auditing, those who try deserve a high-five or maybe a gift of less than $25.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) summed up the sense in the room at a Feb. 1 hearing on contract auditing.
“This is a subject which may sound dry to almost everyone sitting outside this room — and likely some of the people inside it as well,” said the chairwoman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Contracting Oversight Subcommittee, as she opened the afternoon meeting.
The hearing drew none of the 11 subcommittee members except for McCaskill and Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), its ranking member.
McCaskill acknowledged Brown’s tenacity in making it to the hearing.
“There aren’t a lot of people out there who wake up in the morning excited about talking about contract oversight and auditing, so I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Sen. Brown over the last few months,” she said.
