Top OMB exec steps down

Mike Howell is stepping down as deputy administrator for e-government and information technology in the Office of Management and Budget, and will become deputy program manager for the Information Sharing Environment, according to a report on Federal News Radio.

Howell came to OMB from the Interior Department, where he had been CIO, in September 2008, replacing Tim Young, according to 1105 Media coverage at the time. Howell was the first career federal employee to take the deputy administrator post at OMB, which until earlier in 2008 had been a political appointment.
