Merger of small engineering firms expands government offerings

Commonwealth Technology Inc. has acquired QED Inc., a provider of specialized engineering services to the federal government based in Reston, Va. The purchase price was not reported.

QED is a small business that specializes in communications, signal technology and technical solutions for the intelligence community, according to an announcement from CTI dated Sept. 30.

"QED offers expertise in the areas of antenna design, RF circuit design, RF propagation and link analysis, software engineering and computational physics that round out our portfolio of technical solutions and offerings," said CTI President and CEO Paul McCann in announcing the acquisition.

CTI is a small-business government engineering services provider whose primary client is the Defense Department.

As a result of the acquisition, CTI will have 110 full-time employees at three Northern Virginia locations: its Alexandria headquarters, Sterling and Reston.
