5 companies named to FEMA support contract

Five companies have won a share of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's $500 million Centralized Operations, Maintenance and Management Information Technology contract, known as COMMIT.

BAE Systems Inc., EDS Corp., Perot Systems Inc., Science Applications International Corp. and Unisys Corp. will now compete for task orders under the contract to provide operations and maintenance support for FEMA’s IT systems, which respond to crises such as natural disasters or acts of terrorism. All the companies are rank on Washington Technology's 2009 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.

The five-year contract is designed to help FEMA modernize its IT division and accelerate its ability to quickly field IT services supporting the agency’s emergency response efforts, public alert process, asset visibility, finances and other aspects of its mission, Unisys officials said in an announcement.

Other servces to be competed include end user support, applications and network operations support, software configuration, software sustainment, hardware installation, maintenance and operations support; and technology refresh for FEMA network assets, the officials said.

Unisys, of Blue Bell, Pa., ranks No. 32 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors. BAE Systems ranks No. 14; Perot Systems ranks No. 40 and SAIC ranks No. 7.
