NIH readies $20 billion opportunity

The National Institutes of Health has released a sources sought notice and draft request for proposals for the third generation of its Chief Information Office--Solutions and Partners contract.

NIH this week released a sources sought notice and a draft request for proposals on the 10-year, $20 billion contract.
“Developing this [government wide acquisition contract] is a key part of our new business development strategy as we prepare our organization to meet the future needs of government IT procurement,” said Robert Coen, NIH’s deputy program director.
The contract is expected to be awarded sometime next year and will replace the current NIH CIO-SP 2 and Image World 2 New Dimension contracts. Nearly 90 companies hold positions on those two contracts, which were awarded in 1996 and 2000 and are open to all government agencies to use.
NIH said it is planning a second RFP for a small business-only version of the new contract.
The contract will have 10 functional areas: CIO support, outsourcing, IT operations and maintenance, integration services, critical infrastructure protection and information assurance, digital government, enterprise management systems, health care and biomedical research, software development, and imaging.
