Justice issues RFI for gang activity information system

The Justice Department wants information on the available technologies and capabilities that would be required to build a national information system to store and share information on the activities of violent gangs.

In a request for information issued April 8, the department is asking companies and organizations to provide insight into what would be required to design, develop and implement an information system for the FBI’s National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC).

NGIC supports law enforcement efforts aimed at monitoring gang activity through the timely and accurate sharing of key information and analysis of intelligence gleaned from law enforcement at the federal, state and local levels, the RFI states. The information stored in the system pertains to growth, migration and criminal activity associated with violent gangs that pose a threat to public safety.

The RFI asks those interested to provide specific details regarding the potential system’s capabilities to carry out the NGIC’s mission of compiling information on gangs through research and investigation. The department also wants input on how such a system would carry out analysis functions on the data it gathers and stores.  

The system will require such functional capabilities as user interface services, data management services, intelligence analysis, program management services and system management services, the RFI states.

Responses are due April 22.
