Management Services to assist Navy with computer platform

Management Services Group Inc. will provide software and hardware services to meet new computer platform requirements from the Navy under an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract worth $95 million.

The small-business award calls for the Virginia Beach, Va., company to design and develop a system using commercially available products to support the Navy’s new Common Processing System (CPS).

Efforts include development of logistics support products, spares and support services, according to an announcement made March 4 by the Defense Department.

The procurement will create a processing system that supports the planned implementation of open architecture for Navy combat systems.

The CPS will be designed around commercially available hardware and software and will provide computer processing and memory, data storage and extraction and input/output interfaces to support host software applications of Navy combat systems. The system will meet the computing requirements of other programs of record, including Aegis Modernization, the announcement said.

The work will be performed in Virginia Beach; King George, Va.; Chesapeake, Va.; Gaithersburg, Md.; and Johnstown, Pa. Completion is expected by Jan. 2010.

The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
