Alion to improve management of DOD technical information

Alion Science and Technology Inc. has won a $3.2 million task order to help the Defense Department improve the management and use of technical information about various weapon systems.

The technology solutions provider will help improve the efficiency and accessibility of scientific and technical information used by the DOD’s Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC), which is operated by Alion.

Under the three-year contract, Alion will help improve the management and use of information related to conventional and directed-energy weapons systems technology. The scope of the program includes design, development, testing, evaluation, operations and maintenance of current DOD and military systems.

Alion’s efforts also will focus on eliminating duplicate reports and creating and maintaining inventories of relevant knowledge, models and simulations for distribution to the government, industry, academia and approved domestic users, company officials said.

WSTIAC is one of nine information research and analysis centers sponsored by the Defense Technical Information Center. Established by DOD, they provide research and engineering expertise to researchers, scientists, engineers and program managers.

Alion is developing and managing improved methods of information collection, analysis, transfer and standardization. That will increase the use and dissemination of accurate scientific and technical information, said Chris Amos, Alion’s senior vice president and manager of the Technology Solutions Group.

“We are also helping WSTIAC provide the best flow of accurate and current information within the DOD and from the U.S. government to authorized customers,” Amos added.
