Marines seek electronic maintenance devices

The Marines Corps Systems Command wants ideas from industry on next-generation portable devices that can enhance maintenance workflow.

The Marines Corps Systems Command wants ideas from industry on next-generation portable electronic devices that can enhance maintenance workflow.

In a sources-sought notice posted Jan. 7, the service asks for concepts for electronic maintenance devices (EMD) that involve hardware, software, peripherals and embedded functionality to help facilitate maintenance activities.

As examples of what the Marines are seeking, the announcement states that the concepts might address the need to access and display technical information and schematics, document tests and repairs, and facilitate parts ordering.

The concepts might include portable laptops, laptops with a wearable device and personal data assistants. Such devices must interface with Marine Corps logistics systems.

The EMD approach should provide maintenance staff with the ability to initiate and record repairs and file the information in logistics systems.

Interested parties should provide a concept overview, key performance characteristics and rough cost estimates. Responses are due Feb. 7.
