4 contractors named to Army RFID award
Four contractors have won a RFID Army contract worth almost $430 million.
A quartet of federal contractors has won a radio frequency identification contract from the Army that has a maximum value of $429.4 million over 10 years.
The Radio Frequency Identification-III indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract went to Savi Technology Inc., a Lockheed Martin company; Northrop Grumman Information Technology; Unisys Corp. and Systems & Processes Engineering Corp.
Under terms of the firm fixed-price IDIQ awards, the contractors will supply commercial active RFID (aRFID) hardware, software and services, Defense Department officials said.
The 10-year award consists of a three-year base period; two one-year options for products, services and maintenance; and five one-year options for maintenance only, the officials said.
The RFID-III contract will allow DOD to switch from a sole-source contract to a multi-vendor IDIQ contract, Lt. Col. Pat Burden, of the Army’s Product Manager for Joint–Automatic Identification Technology office at Fort Belvoir, Va., said in a statement.
“This is a significant milestone for DOD in that this migration will not only give DOD and other federal agencies’ customers best-value solutions at competitive prices, but it moves us to ISO 18000.7:2008 compliant products, thus broadening interoperability with DOD and our coalition partners,” he said.
In addition, the contracting office of Product Manager for Joint–Automatic Identification Technology will offer site surveys, installation, integration, implementation and training for turnkey aRFID solutions to DOD, Coast Guard, NATO, federal agencies, coalition partners, and other foreign military sales, the officials said.
