SRA wins environmental health project

SRA International Inc. will provide information technology infrastructure support to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences under a task order that could be worth $26.3 million if all options are exercised, the company announced.

Under the task order, SRA will provide IT infrastructure support, applications development and operations of bioinformatics systems for the institute, based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. The institute, which is part of the National Institutes for Health, specializes in research on how the environment affects public health and disability.

SRA also will provide IT security and scientific IT and software applications support.

"SRA has a rich heritage of accomplishment supporting environmental health programs, research and scientific pursuits, as well as enterprise level IT innovation and solutions," Timothy Atkin, SRA global health sector senior vice president, said in a statement.

SRA has a longstanding relationship with the institute through its support for such initiatives as the National Toxicology Program, Atkin said.

SRA, based in Fairfax, Va., will primarily support this project from its office in Durham, N.C. The company has about 6,400 employees and is ranked No. 32 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
