McAfee Inc. acquired Reconnex Inc., a data loss-prevention company with technology that learns and adapts to automate the ongoing protection of data.
Reconnex is a privately held company in Mountain View, Calif., that supplies its technology to enterprises, government agencies and educational institutions.
The company's patented learning application allows organizations to identify sensitive data and business processes and gain better insight into risk. The technology helps protect all the information assets on a network without requiring upfront knowledge about what needs to be protected, regardless of how that information is stored, secured or communicated. Reconnex's technology indexes, classifies and understands the context of all the content within an organization.
McAfee officials say they hope the acquisition will expand the company's position in security and risk management.
The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2008. After the closing, Reconnex's technologies will be incorporated into McAfee's Data Protection business unit.
