AT&T releases Synaptic Hosting
The new hosted service will offer online storage, processing power and enterprise applications.
AT&T has introduced a new hosted service offering online storage, processing power and enterprise applications. The company is aiming the service for organizations with seasonal or dynamic increases and decreases in operations; usage can be scaled up or down on an as-needed basis.
The service, called Synaptic Hosting, will offer virtualized servers and data storage, as well as the ability to manage applications and computer resources. All AT&T services will be offered with service-level Agreements.
Synaptic Hosting will use five AT&T data centers, along with hosted computing management software developed by Usinternetworking, a high-end hosting provider AT&T acquired in 2006. The data centers are located in Piscataway, N.J.; San Diego; Annapolis, Md.; Singapore and Amsterdam. Each of these locations will act as a gateway for the AT&T network.
One early customer of the site is the U.S. Olympic Committee, which hosts its Web site through the service. "We anticipate rapidly increasing traffic up to and during the Beijing Olympic Games, tapering off in the months following the events. AT&T Synaptic Hosting is ideal for handling the fluctuating online demand associated with the Olympic Games," said Damani Short, chief information officer at the USOC, in a statement.
