Accenture gives NYC shot in arm with health technologies

Accenture Ltd. will help improve the delivery of health care services in New York City by providing new technology capabilities under a three-year, $79.6 million contract.

The contract calls for the company to make a number of technology and business process improvements to the city's Health and Human Services Connect program. The work entails expanding existing systems in addition to developing new ones, the company said.

Accenture plans to develop a technology architecture for human services, craft a case management capability that supports specific functions, and furnish new capabilities that will accept electronic applications and help determine eligibility and enrollment. In addition, the company will expand the capabilities of the existing pre-screening application.

The purpose of the HHS-Connect program is to design and build modern, flexible technologies that will improve the delivery of health care and human services. Among its goals are to enable greater accessibility to services, improve information management and increase accountability.

The city's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications awarded the contract to Accenture.

Accenture ranks No. 28 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
