IBM suspended from new contract work

IBM Corp. has been suspended from taking on new work for the federal government, according to a posting on a General Services Administration Web site.

A March 27 posting on the GSA's Excluded Parties List System Web sites, says that IBM has been suspended for an unspecified reason and for an undetermined length of time.

The general description of the category of the suspension says that the action was taken "based on an indictment or other adequate evidence" that could lead to a debarment or "other causes" that could cause a debarment.

Although the suspension was initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency, it is effective for the entire government.

EPA released a statement saying the action is a "temporary measure while the agency reviews potential activities involving an EPA procurement." The agency declined to comment further while the matter is under review.

The Armonk, N.Y., company ranks ranks No. 18 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
