Soccer diplomacy continues
Just a quick update on the Soccer for Iraqi and American Friends project launched by Justin Porto, an American IT contractor working in Iraq.Porto began handing out soccer balls to Iraqis he passes on his daily runs. He has now distributed more than 125 balls to Iraqi children in schools, orphanages, at the National Iraqi Assistance Center, in the International Zone, as well as the Red Zone.Other recipients include Iraqi military, police, Ministry of Defense workers, trash collectors, janitors, food service providers, laundry workers, security guards, laborers and bus drivers.Porto started his after noticing the smiles on people's faces as he would kick his soccer ball along the street as he made his daily runs.He is still accepting soccer balls.
