Jerry Edgerton, the former leader of MCI's federal government business unit, has been named chief executive officer of network services provider Command Information Inc.
Edgerton will take responsibility for the management and growth of the company, which serves both federal and commercial customers and specializes in IPv6 technologies. Edgerton joined the company's board of directors in April.
"Command Information has used its extensive experience in network engineering management and solutions development to create a compelling vision for the next-generation Internet," Edgerton said in a statement.
He plans to use the company's already-developed technologies and strategies to move business and federal networks to the new IP standard. The company will also develop applications and solution sets that take advantage of the IPv6 migration.
Edgerton led MCI's federal government business for about 20 years, and served briefly as president of Verizon Federal after the two companies merged in 2006. He stepped down in January 2007.
Command Information Inc. is based in Herndon, Va.
