GD dives into submarine control systems work

General Dynamics Corp. has won a $91 million contract to continue providing modifications and support fire control systems aboard U.S. and U.K. submarines.

The government contractor's Fairfax, Va.-based Advanced Information Systems unit will tend fire control systems for both U.S. and U.K. ballistic missile submarines, as well as for the control system aboard U.S. guided-missile submarines.

The scope of work covers operational support, repair, installation, checkout, development, production and training systems for both nations' submarines.

In addition, the contract includes development to extend the life of the Mk 6 missile guidance system. The GD unit will perform the work in Pittsfield, Mass. It expects to complete the work by April 2011.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems specializes in ground systems, imagery processing, mission payloads, maritime subsurface, surface and airborne mission systems and national work.
