CGI wins more IRS payment compliance work

CGI Federal has been awarded a $10 million contract from the Internal Revenue Service to perform maintenance and operations support for the agency's Filing and Payment Compliance system implementation. The award expands work that CGI has been doing for the IRS since March 2005.

The IRS began the implementation of F&PC using CGI's Computer Assisted Collection System for Government, an online workflow and case management system designed for government compliance operations, to manage filing and compliance cases.

The F&PC implementation lets the IRS handle the annual volume of cases and reduce the growth of delinquent accounts. The system's efficiency has led to the IRS resolving more cases. The system supports automated case analysis to determine the cases that are most productive for the agency to follow up on by IRS agents and private tax collectors.

The use of private tax collectors has stirred controversy so much so that the House passed a bill last month prohibiting the privatization of tax collection. IRS has said that the use of private tax collectors for the simplest cases helps reduce the tax gap.
