Vangent to upgrade DOD healthcare agency

Vangent Inc. has won a five-year, $45 million Defense Department contract to upgrade the Tricare Management Activity health care program.

Tricare Management Activity is a DOD agency that administers the health care plan of the uniformed services, retirees and their families, serving more than 9.1 million eligible beneficiaries worldwide.

Under the contract, Vangent and subcontractors CACI Inc. and Planned Systems International Inc. will provide engineering and enhanced technical services at TMA's e- commerce system site in Aurora, Colo. The facility is responsible for overseeing program requirements, managing contracts and tracking Tricare's financial transactions.

To support those operations, TMA-Aurora has created the E-Commerce Project, an integrated set of financial, contract management and acquisition systems.

Work called for in the contract includes system engineering, analysis, design, development and integration; software development; and commercial hardware and software procurement. The work also entails testing, documentation development and maintenance; deployment and installation; software and network maintenance; and systems operations and training.

The award comes under the DOD/Systems Integration, Design, Development, Operations and Maintenance Services-3 contract vehicle, which allows the military health system, its components and the Veterans Affairs Department to order services, equipment and facilities for their IT systems.
