EDS wins ATF contract extension

EDS Corp. has been awarded a $68 million contract extension from the Justice Department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to manage ATF's computer systems as the bureau upgrades to the Microsoft Vista operating system.

Under the extension, EDS will manage hardware and software acquisition, desktop PC maintenance and support, application server management, messaging, peripherals and local area network management. It also will provide system security, help desk services, disaster recovery planning and preparation, and new technology insertion.

The bureau awarded the extension under the ATF Enterprise Standard Architecture III contract.

The extension will give ATF greater flexibility as it transitions to the Vista system in 2008, EDS said.

EDS' Agility Alliance partners Sun Microsystems Inc. and EMC Corp. are supplying products and services to ATF under the ESA III contract.

ATF awarded the initial five-year, $300 million ESA III contract to EDS in December 2003. The extension will begin when that contract expires in December 2008 and will run through 2010, EDS said.

The contract extension covers services to about 7,000 ATF desktops worldwide, with the goal of building an infrastructure that works better, costs less and reduces the total cost of ownership, said Dennis Stolkey, vice president and general manager of the U.S. Public Sector division at EDS.
