Griffon tapped for C-17A communications systems

Griffon Corp. has won multiple contracts totaling more than $32 million from Boeing Co. to deliver radio systems that will be used on the Air Force's C-17A Globemaster III strategic transport aircraft.

Under the contracts, Griffon of Jericho, N.Y., will deliver an integrated radio management system for the C-17A that uses communications open systems architecture.

Telephonics Corp., which is Griffon's electronic information and communication systems unit, will perform the work.

The agreement applies to both new C-17 aircraft in production as well as upgrades to existing aircraft to enable use of the open architecture approach.

The new communication management system will provide Globemaster aircrews with secure fully digital audio, integrated displays and controls for management of all communication and navigation assets.

The C-17A Globemaster is operated by the U.S. Air Force, British Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force. It is capable of delivering troops and equipment not only to established air bases, but also to forward bases with rough or improvised landing areas.
