IG: Security still lax in DHS systems

The Homeland Security Department still has information security gaps that make its computer systems vulnerable to threats, according to a new report from the department's inspector general, Richard Skinner.

The agency implemented a plan to certify and accredit all operational IT systems by Sept. 30, but it has not been completed, according to the report. "All DHS systems have not been properly certified and accredited," Skinner wrote.

Furthermore, the agency's Plan of Action and Milestones information security program is not addressing the information security weaknesses found in all components, nor is the data in the enterprise management tool, Trust Agent FISMA, complete or current, the IG said.
