The Army will continue to expand its movement tracking system under a new contract awarded to Comtech Telecommunications Corp.
The Army National Guard is purchasing the installation kits for the movement tracking system, which lets commanders trace truck convoys and their supplies.
The tracking system uses global positioning system technology and has two-way messaging for communications between trucks and commanders. The contract was awarded to Comtech's subsidiary Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp. of Germantown, Md.
The $1.6 million order from the Army National Guard was funded by a recently enacted supplemental Army National Guard and Army Reserve Equipment Plan.
"The supplemental funding bill will enable further deployment of our field-proven technology used extensively by the U.S. Army and Army National Guard in areas of conflict, such as Iraq and Afghanistan, to be placed directly in the hands of the National Guard's first responders," said Fred Kornberg, Comtech's president and CEO.
Comtech Telecommunications Corp., which offers products, systems and services for advanced communications, is based in Melville, N.Y.
