Cogent slated for Md. automated fingerprint work

Cogent Systems Inc. will supply an automated palm print and fingerprint identification system to the Maryland Public Safety and Correction Services Department through a five-year contract worth $4 million.

Under the contract, Cogent of South Pasadena, Calif., will replace a legacy identification system with a new digital system. In the process, the company will digitize about 5 million fingerprint, palm print and latent hard-copy records.

The new system features customized workflow to support law enforcement identification. This will let officials search all types of fingerprints and palm prints and make background checks.

The identification system will include a National Institute of Standards and Technology-based archive system and the ability to store 1,000 pixels-per-inch image resolution records.

Cogent makes automated fingerprint and palm print identification systems and other biometric identification solutions for government, law enforcement agencies and other organizations.
