SAIC to navigate IT for Military Sealift Command

Science Applications International Corp. won a one-year, $11.9 million contract from the Military Sealift Command to supply ashore IT and operations support services.

Under the contract, SAIC will furnish project management, systems integration, systems engineering and global helpdesk operations. The contract includes options that could increase its value to $75 million.

The Military Sealift Command operates more than 110 ships worldwide. It supports military forces during wartime operations, supports U.S. and worldwide humanitarian efforts, and delivers rapid response to hot spots around the globe.

The command carries equipment, fuel, supplies and ammunition used to sustain U.S. forces in war zones for as long as operational requirements dictate, as well as worldwide during peacetime contingencies. More than 82 percent of all such equipment and supplies is moved by sea.

The Military Sealift Command is headquartered in Washington and has field commands in Norfolk, Va.; San Diego.; Naples, Italy; Manama, Bahrain; and Yokohama, Japan. SAIC will manage the contract from its Washington offices.

SAIC of San Diego has 43,000 employees and had annual revenue of $7.8 billion for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2006. The company ranks No. 3 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
