GTSI wins U.S. Communities cooperative purchasing deal

GTSI Corp. won a two-year renewal contract to supply state and local governments and related agencies with a broad range of IT products and services.

GTSI of Chantilly, Va., has seen its work on the U.S. Communities Technology Contract grow substantially from $6.6 million in 2003, to $22.7 million in 2004 and to $44.8 million in 2005.

The newest contract may bring the company $75 million worth of new orders in 2006, a company spokeswoman said.

U.S. Communities, Walnut Creek, Calif., is a nonprofit organization that offers state and local governments the chance to buy computers, software, services and peripheral accessories at discounted rates by pooling their purchasing power.

The County of Fairfax, Va., which awarded GTSI the contract, is the organization's lead procurement agency.

Many government customers have used the contracting vehicle to purchase security solutions, said Steve Hammond, director of GTSI's state and local practice.

"Governments and educational institutions are buying mobile data computers and mounting them in public safety vehicles such as police cars and emergency response vehicles," he said in a statement.

GTSI has about 850 employees and had $1 billion in fiscal 2004 revenue. The company ranks No. 19 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors. The 2006 list will be released May 15.
