Senate issues call to vendors for major IT upgrade

The Senate wants interested vendors to detail whether they can provide, install and maintain thousands of computers and servers both on Capitol Hill and throughout the country.

In a recent sources-sought notice, the Senate sergeant-at-arms said it is seeking information from industry for the acquisition and support of a massive amount of computer hardware and software, including 12,000 microcomputers and 3,000 servers.

According to the notice, the contractor must provide maintenance and support staff on site at the Senate, hotline/help desk services and mandatory functions such as moves, upgrades, and installation at Senate state offices throughout the country.

Hardware acquisition and support under the potential contract include desktop and portable microcomputers, servers, printer and imaging products, videoconferencing equipment and mobile packages, commercial software applications, and Senate-developed applications, the notice said.

Interested vendors should also be able to provide support for these services both over the phone and on-site throughout the country, the notice said.

Responses are due May 8.
