Symantec buys instant-message software firm

Symantec Corp. will acquire IMlogic Inc., an instant-message software maker, the company said yesterday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

IMlogic of Waltham, Mass., produces enterprise software for instant messaging for the commercial and public sectors.

As a result of the acquisition, Symantec will be able to offer a "complete security and archiving solution to help customers manage all their messaging requirements," Enrique Salem, senior vice president of security products and solutions at Symantec, said in a written announcement of the deal.

Headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., Symantec offers a variety of content and network security software for virus protection, intrusion detection and remote management. It has about 6,500 workers and had 2005 revenue of almost $2.6 billion for the fiscal year ended April 1.
