Nyland to lead IBM public sector consulting

Veteran IBM Corp. executive John Nyland has been named managing partner of the company's Public Sector Business Consulting Services unit.

In his new role, Nyland will manage the IBM arm that furnishes consulting services and systems integration to the government, health care, and education industries throughout the United States. He will work closely with Anne Altman, managing director of IBM Federal, whose group is responsible for sales to the federal government.

Nyland previously was general manager of Public Sector with IBM Global Services. During his 28-year career with Big Blue, Nyland also has held positions as vice president of IBM Public Sector for the Americas and vice president of sales for IBM Federal.

He serves on the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education and is chairman of the Board of the Technology Council of Maryland. Nyland holds bachelor of arts and master of business administration degrees, both from Michigan State University.

IBM has more than 5,000 employees serving various U.S. government accounts. The company has more than 369,000 employees and had annual sales of $91.1 billion in fiscal 2005.
