New route to Carnegie Hall: The Virtual Air Guitar project, developed by
students at the Helsinki University of Technology, uses a PC to monitor hand movements of air guitarists wearing special gloves. The system reproduces electric guitar sounds corresponding to the guitarist's midair finger motions. "When you're playing really hard, you get a really nasty distortion sound, which is great, but you have to work for it," one student said.
