USPS re-ups Nortel PEC Solutions for automated business mail system

Nortel PEC Solutions Inc. of Fairfax, Va. has won a $21 million, one-year contract extension with the U.S. Postal Service to provide service, support and continue working on development of an electronic postal system.

The U.S. Postal Service will continue efforts to reduce paperwork and improve its electronic functions through further development of PostalOne!, its automated business mail system.

Nortel PEC Solutions Inc. of Fairfax, Va. has won a $21 million, one-year contract extension with the postal service to provide service, support and continue working on development of the electronic postal system.

The system seeks to eliminate paperwork by offering electronic acceptance, verification and payment systems to businesses. PostalOne! processes an estimated $35 billion in annual revenues from business mail services.

Nortel PEC Solutions, a subsidiary of Nortel Networks Corp. of Brampton, Canada, also will help the postal service enhance the mail processing support applications needed to handle an estimated two million new addresses added annually.

Nortel PEC Solutions, which specializes in creating Web-based IT systems for government agencies, counts the Defense Department and Internal Revenue Service as clients. The company engineers, deploys and manages mission-critical solutions for federal, state and local government agencies in the following fields: homeland security, criminal justice and intelligence and defense.

Nortel PEC Solutions, which has about 1,990 employees and annual revenues of $202.7 million, ranks No. 66 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
