Unisys wins $65 million HHS outsourcing deal

To meet the ever-increasing demand for better IT solutions, the Health and Human Services Department has hired Unisys Corp. to guide HHS toward IT standardization.

Terms of the three-year, $65 million contract call for Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys to support 8,000 HHS employees across eight operating divisions. The contract also has one two-year option worth about $35 million, the company said yesterday in a statement.

The project aims to increase interoperability, decrease costs while improving service delivery, and enhance constituent satisfaction. It will transform the eight operating divisions from a government-owned, contractor-operated environment into a contractor-owned, contractor-operated environment.

The eight divisions are the Administration for Children and Families, the Administration on Aging, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Office of the Inspector General, the Office of the Secretary, and the Program Support Center.

Unisys will provide and refresh regularly all desktop and computing assets and offer managed services. These include desktop support, server support, service desk, server consolidation, continuity of operations and disaster recovery, training, application and server hosting, security operations, system and network monitoring, and database and application administration.

Unisys has about 36,000 employees and annual revenue of $5.8 billion. The company ranks No. 22 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
