Dust Networks' new SmartMesh-XR is a low-power, wireless, mesh-networking system designed for enterprise-class monitoring and control applications. It uses mesh-networking software, battery powered wireless nodes and network diagnostic tools to deliver low-power networks. SmartMesh-XR uses a synchronized communication protocol to enable deep duty-cycling and power efficiency.Because there is no difference between routing and sensing nodes, a SmartMesh-XR network configures itself. SmartMesh-XR nodes are placed where needed, then the network handles wireless connectivity, routing redundancy and frequency agility, so there is no need for specialized radio frequency skills or site surveys. Dust Networks is in Hayward, Calif.A new Joint Tactical Radio System for close-combat tactical communication, designed by a team led by General Dynamics Corp., is now completing preliminary design and review. Each Joint Tactical Radio System Cluster 5 radio is driven by a core receiver the size of a credit card that supports the primary radio functions for each form factor. The 14-variant family of small, lightweight radios will let warfighters be more agile and covert than current technology allows.Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging now has a flight-management solution to support its aerial sensors. The Flight Planning and Evaluation Software and the Flight and Sensor Control Management System are integrated into the Leica Geosystems digital workflow to facilitate data flow and automated flight control. With an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use graphical interface, the module enables flight planning on all common types of geographic and grid systems, including interactive planning using digital maps and coordinates. The evaluation mode features multiple flights, flexible data export and data summary and calculation. Leica is based in Switzerland.Send new product announcements to Doug Beizer at , and type "On the Edge" in the subject line.
