Social Security taps Lockheed Martin for records scanning
Lockheed Martin Corp. has won a contract to provide IT services to the Social Security Administration under its Electronic Disability Initiative National Scanning Project.
Lockheed Martin Corp. has won a five-year, $124 million contract to provide IT services to the Social Security Administration under the agency's Electronic Disability Initiative National Scanning Project.
Under the blanket purchase agreement, Lockheed Martin of Bethesda, Md., will scan paper medical and nonmedical records and create digital images for transmission. The images will then be sent to an electronic folder that is part of the agency's document management architecture.
Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas has partnered with Lockheed Martin as a major subcontractor on the deal.
In addition to performing management operations near SSA headquarters in Baltimore, Lockheed Martin will establish and staff three scanning centers to support agency offices in the 50 states, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.
Lockheed Martin does business in research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The company has about 130,000 employees and annual sales of $35.5 billion. Lockheed Martin ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors, which measures federal contracting revenue.
