Lee to join FAS management team

The General Services Administration today named Deidre Lee as the assistant commissioner of the new Federal Acquisition Service's Integrated Technology Services.

Lee, the Defense Department's director of procurement and acquisition policy, will start Aug. 8.

In her new role, Lee ? who also served as the administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy during the Clinton administration ? will oversee the technology and professional services contracts, the acquisition workforce and the development and delivery of major IT and telecommunications governmentwide acquisition contracts such as Networx and Alliant.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Dee Lee joining our senior management team," said GSA administrator Stephen Perry in a statement. "She is a distinguished leader in the federal acquisition community, and she brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will be very beneficial to our ongoing efforts to achieve excellence in acquisition services at GSA."

GSA's decision to bring Lee over comes a little more than a week after officials named Barbara Shelton acting commissioner of the new organization, which combines the Federal Technology and Federal Supply services. Shelton's choice raised some concern on Capitol Hill because of her inexperience with the broader acquisition community.

Before heading up OFPP, Lee was the procurement executive at NASA. She holds a master's degree in public administration from Oklahoma University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Central State University in Oklahoma.
