AT&T unit gets Defense video work

AT&T Government Solutions won a 22-month, $26 million contract extension to continue providing video teleconferencing for the Defense Department, the company said today.

Under the contract, first awarded in February 1997, AT&T maintains and operates video hubs around the world that are used to conduct more than 2,000 video conferences each month for both command and control and administrative purposes. The company has provided video conferencing services to the Defense Department for more than 20 years.

As part of the work, AT&T is adding a sixth video hub in southwest Asia. This expansion is valued at more than $4 million.

The company also operates a 24-hour network management center to support the video network, which can connect up to 25 sites for a video teleconference. More than 3,000 military units worldwide have access to the network.

Headquartered in Vienna, Va., AT&T Government Solutions provides telecom and information technology services to the federal government. Its parent company, AT&T Corp. of Bedminster, N.J., employs 47,600 workers and had 2004 revenue of $30.5 billion. It ranks No. 31 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of prime federal contractors.
