NASCIO meeting to focus on federal-state issues

Strengthening federal-state relations and improving information sharing will top the agenda at the meeting of state chief information officers in Washington this week.

The 2005 Midyear Meeting of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers of Lexington, Ky., will be held May 4-6 at the Grand Hyatt Washington hotel. The group is holding the meeting in conjunction with its annual fly-in meeting.

The fly-in provides an opportunity for state CIOs to meet with members of Congress and the administration to discuss pressing state IT issues. About 30 state CIOs and their alternates are expected to take part in the fly-in event.

The topics include coping with the unintended side effects of federally funded initiatives, sharing justice and homeland security information, and establishing enterprise architectures to facilitate information sharing.

This year's keynote presentation will be delivered by Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt May 5.
