Alien Technology covers Army RFID deal

Alien Technology Corp. won a blanket purchase agreement from the Army Contracting Agency's Information Technology, E-commerce and Commercial Contracting Center for radio frequency identification electronic product-code readers, the company said today.

The agreement is part of a government project to provide a common, integrated structure for logistic identification, tracking, locating and monitoring of commodities and assets throughout the Defense Department based on radio frequency identification electronic product-code technology. The contract value was not disclosed.

Alien Technology also won a blanket purchase agreement for passive RFID electronic product code tags in March.

The technology is applicable across the Defense Department in inventory and warehousing environments, supply-chain tracking and control of maintenance, repair and tracking facilities. It is also used for controlling entry and exit points of military facilities, sea ports, air terminals and roadside installations, controlling transactions at custody exchange points, and handling hazardous explosives.

Based in Morgan Hill, Calif., Alien Technology offers RFID products to the government and commercial sectors. The privately held company employs about 200 workers. It does not disclose financial information.
