Pointsec to supply security technology to Army

Pointsec Mobile Technologies Inc., a provider of security software for such devices as personal digital assistants and mobile phones, will supply its security technology for the Army's Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care (MC4).

Insight Public Sector Inc. will deploy more than 11,000 Windows Mobile-based HP Pocket PC devices with Pointsec for Pocket PC encryption technology. MC4's medical staff will use the devices in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other locations.

The devices will hold patient information as MC4 eliminates paper records in favor of an electronic system for solider care, officials said.

The order for Pointsec's technology is worth $565,000, officials from the Mokena, Ill., company. Insight Public Sector has corporate offices in Tempe, Ariz.

"Any data stored on the device is encrypted on the fly," said Bob Egner, Pointsec's vice president of marketing. "Then if it's lost or stolen, the device is locked out so no unauthorized person can access the data."

The software works on multiple platforms, including Windows and Palm, Egner said.
