GSA plans industry day on reorg

The General Services Administration will soon announce an industry day to discuss the agency's reorganization plans, GSA executives said yesterday.

Within the next few days, GSA will post the time and location of the industry day on the FedBizOpps Web site (www.fedbizopps.gov), said Donna Bennett, GSA's Federal Supply Services commissioner, and Barbara Shelton, acting commissioner for the agency's Federal Technology Service. The industry day likely will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, Bennett said.

"We very much need you to tell us what kinds of changes you need us to make to make your work easier ? to make it easier for you to work with GSA," Shelton said at an Input Inc. conference on federal IT spending.

GSA also will ask agencies for suggestions on changes they want to see it make, she said.

To better coordinate the procurement of goods, services and technology, GSA wants to combine its FSS and FTS offices and funds. The agency anticipates completing an initial draft of its merger plan by May 31.

At the industry day, GSA also wants feedback from vendors on changing the FTS fee structure, which varies from place to place in the country.

"We are looking at rationalizing the FTS fee structure, making it make sense for our customers and our industry partners," Shelton said.

GSA will hold additional industry days on its reorganization if it finds it needs to do so, Shelton said.
