Tracking system finds its mark

A wireless tracking system developed by WhereNet Corp. can be used to track systems or components while undergoing refurbishment.

WhereNet's real-time locating system is being tested in a project to repair and overhaul surveillance radar systems at Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania, said officials from the Santa Clara, Calif., company.

Under the program, Tobyhanna personnel assign an active radio-frequency identification WhereTag transmitter to each component or system. Run on a wireless architecture, each tag triggers a signal when entering or leaving a specific work center.

The location, arrival and departure information is recorded automatically so each piece of tagged equipment can be located during any stage of refurbishment.
