Navy taps Northrop Grumman for Puget Sound public safety

Northrop Grumman Information Technology won a two-year, $4.4 million contract from the Navy to install a 911 computer-aided dispatch system in the east Puget Sound region, the company announced today. The contract has five one-year options.

Northrop Grumman IT of Herndon, Va., will link public safety dispatch centers in eastern Puget Sound to the Navy Region Northwest's Regional Dispatch Center at Naval Base Kitsap for an integrated computer-aided dispatch capability. Kitsap is in Silverdale, Wash.

The award is the second phase of an ongoing project to establish computer-aided dispatch for the Navy in the entire Puget Sound region of Washington. During the project's first phase, which was awarded in September 2003, Northrop Grumman IT implemented a 911 computer-aided dispatch system for the western Puget Sound region.

The company's team includes Vindicator Technologies Inc., Austin, Texas; Motorola Inc., Schaumberg, Ill.; and Verizon Communications Inc., New York. Work on the contract will be done at the Regional Dispatch Center at Naval Base Kitsap and other bases in the northwest region.

Northrop Grumman IT's work for the Navy's dispatch center includes consolidation of video monitoring systems and integration of digital radio communications for emergency personnel, enhanced 911 caller information assistance, mapping, alarm monitoring, multistate weather sensor, fire station and mass alerting systems into the 911 computer-aided dispatch.

Northrop Grumman IT is part of Northrop Grumman Corp. of Los Angeles. The company has more than 122,600 employees and annual sales of $26.2 million. The company ranked No. 2 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
